COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — Astronomers say a partial lunar eclipse will be visible Independence Day weekend. It will be visible from Ohio starting late Saturday July 4 at 11:10 p. m. ABC 6 Meteorologist Andrew Buck Michael said about 35% of the moon will be covered at its peak at 12:30 a. m. Sunday July 5. The phenomenon is called a penumbral lunar eclipse, which occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's partial shadow, or penumbra, per astronomers.
